Here at The Family of Friends, our primary concern is the well-being of our residents. Our staff is highly trained to care for your loved one. Our training includes the following: basic first aid, CPR, food handling, emergency management, resident rights, medication management, infection control, dealing with difficult behaviors, mental health topics, emergency procedures, HIV/AIDS and COVID-19 protocols.

Our dedicated staff is available 24 hours-a-day to assist your loved one with their daily needs.

From assistance with medication management to preparing meals, the staff is trained to handle any situation.

Administrator Role and Profile

The Administrator oversees a dedicated staff who ensure that 24/7 care is provided to assist your loved one with their daily needs, including medication monitoring,  preparation of three meals a day and transportation appointments as needed.

Our current Administrator, Shawn Garland, joined the Family of Friends staff in September of 2017. Shawn began his passion for helping others with volunteer missionary work in Brazil during the late 1990’s.  He later served our country as an Army paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. Following his service he completed his education, at the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work.

Shawn previously worked as a Case Manager for Support Services for Veteran Families helping homeless veterans in Seminole County. Shawn later worked for Central Florida Cares Health System acting as a Housing Specialist assisting providers of mental health and substance abuse counselling and also the local Continuums of Care providing housing for the homeless.

As administrator, Shawn maintains the day-to-day operations at Family of Friends, including managing staff, resident care, facility maintenance and budget spending. Shawn also acts as the facility representative to all local and state agencies, ensuring the facility complies with all state and county rules and laws. Shawn and his family reside in the Sanford community.
